Q: What exactly does an organizer do?

A: Hands-On Organizer works together with you to maximize your spaces and streamline the flow of things in and out of your life. She will help you acquire positive, long-term habits regarding the arrangement of your things, that will be easy to use and feel harmonious with your way of doing things.

Q: I’m afraid I will be embarrassed about my current state of disorder.

A: Be assured that in her 15 years of experience, Hands-On Organizer has seen worse than anything you could show her. There is no judgment. There is only making a plan and beginning to make the changes that make you feel better.

Q: Will I have to buy expensive containers and closet systems?

A: No. Hands-On Organizer believes in making do with what you’ve got first. There’s no sense in spending money on matching bins and fancy boxes when there are less expensive options available. Also, it may be too early in the organizing process to determine what number, type and size containers are needed.

Q: Will I have to throw everything away?

A: Hands-On Organizer doesn’t “make” you do anything you don’t want to do. The task of streamlining and simplifying is often a several-step process. We would first discuss the origin and importance of your things, evaluate the amount of storage spaces you have available, and together create a workable plan for keeping what you want to keep.

Q: What does an organizing session actually look like?

A: First you would tell Hands-On Organizer what prompted your call to her. She will ask you a few questions, look at the spaces to be organized, and outline a general work plan before actually rolling up her sleeves and beginning the work together with you.

Q: I’ve tried to get organized, only to spend even more time looking for things than I did before I got organized. I’m afraid this will happen again.

A: There is no formula to becoming organized. You have unique ways of doing things that work for you. Hands-On Organizer will customize whatever systems we create to your particular life-style and priorities, putting emphasis on simplicity and ease of usage. Even then, no system should be permanent, given how life changes. Each system must endure a trial period to see whether it really works.

Q: If I get really organized, won’t I have to spend a lot of time maintaining what has been set up?

A: Hands-On Organizer recommends spending a bit of maintenance time in order to stay organized. But if the systems you put in place are easy to use, that amount of time shouldn’t exceed 15 minutes per day.

Q: My husband has different organizing priorities than I do. Can you still help me?

A: Relationships can certainly get in the way of getting organized. Hands-On Organizer values treating the other members of your household with respect. That is to say, if Hands-On Organizer is working with you, not your husband, then the only possessions and spaces we would deal with are your own.
